Meet Your Instructor – Jade McAuley

When I finished my communications degree, like most uni grads – I set about finding a “real job” in my field of study. In the early 2000s (in a regional area), there was not a whole lot going in marketing and PR – so when I came across a Marketing Assistant position that had already closed at a local bank, I decided to apply anyway. 

Thanks to a quirky cover letter, I managed to score an interview (copy to the rescue!) – and landed the job. It was one of the most fortuitous things to happen in my life – having a Marketing Manager to properly mentor me in my first real marketing role. I will be forever grateful to my manager for not only all that she taught me, but for her constant support and encouragement as well.

Having a good mentor – someone who cares about you and how well you do, but also has their eye on the bigger picture of what’s needed in the marketplace – is incredibly valuable. That’s the approach I take when I’m training anyone on any type of marketing – I want you to do well, and I will push you to do your best. I find that people are often a lot better at marketing than they realise, and I love being able to help round out their skills and give them the extra confidence to do their best for both themselves, and their organisation.

  • Copywriting is the words part of marketing – the slogan for a campaign, the script for a radio or TV ad, the text on your website, the posts you write for social media and so on. The design part of marketing is also super important – to draw the eye, build brand awareness and more. But without the right words – a good looking design won’t get you very far.

    The clearer your message is, the easier it is for people to understand what you want to communicate. The more compelling you can make that message, the more likely they are to pay attention – and remember it.

    Each lesson goes through the main concepts that we would deliver in face-to-face training for both beginners and those who have been doing copywriting for a while – to cover all skill levels. The resources are also standardised – so that they will be useful to anyone starting out, but are also a point of reference that can be used long into the future (ie we’ll be giving you the actual templates and references we ourselves use in our marketing agency).
